1628: The Holy See refuses to approve the Congregation of the Mission "because the petitions that Vincent de Paul has sent to this Sacred Congregation seem excessive and it also seems as though he prefers to establish a new religion rather than a Mission."
1878: The 24th General Assembly that will eventually elect Fr. Fiat, Superior General, opens. For four months he had been the Vicar General and he tells the Assembly that he ignored the order of the previous Assembly (1874) which denied him the power to name and change superiors. He said he had named and changed superiors because he believed the assembly had erred in denying this right, which is given to him by the Constitutions.
1905: The Holy See grants the Vincentian Family the right to celebrate on December 20 of each year the Patronage of Saint Vincent.
1925: The last volume of the complete works of Vincent De Paul is published. This work was edited by Pierre Coste.
1927: Even though he had died on August 28, the feast of Blessed Gabriel Michael is celebrated for the first time on September 1st.
1950: Fr. Theunissen is executed in China.
