Anton Stres CM
Anton Stres was born on December 15, 1942 in Dona?ka Gora near Rogatec in the diocese of Maribor, Slovenia. He entered Congregation of the Mission in the Province of Slovenia in 1960, took vows on March 28, 1967 and was ordained priest on April 20, 1968.
Since 1972 he has taught philosophy at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Ljubljana. In 1985 he became President of the Slovenian Justice and Peace Commission and since 1997 has been a consultor of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and was assigned in charge of the Bishops' Conference's commission for relations with the Slovene State.
On May 13, 2000 appointed Auxiliary Bishop of diocese of Maribor, Slovenia, and Titular Bishop of Poetovium. Ordained bishop on June 24 2000 by then bishop Franc Kramberger of Maribor. On April 7, 2006 Msgr Stres was appointed Bishop of Celje, Slovenia. When Diocese of Maribor was promoted to be Metropolitan Archdiocese of Maribor it was divided in three dioceses: Maribor, Celje and Murska Sobota. On May 21, 2006 Msgr Stres was installed as First Bishop of Celje.
On January 31, 2009 pope Benedict XVI appointed Msgr Anton Stres CM Coadjutor Archbishop of Maribor, Slovenia. On November 28, 2009 appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Ljubljana and Primate of Slovenia.
