- Bearers of Joy and Hope That Flows Over
Jesus’ is the power that frees us from the sadness and hopelessness of death. He wants us to be bearers of joy and hope like his Mother.
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of those who make up the Church to bring Christ to others. And he is the light of the nations and the glory of Israel. So, he calls us to be bearers of his light and glory. Bearers also of the joy and hope that he rouses in humans.
And to be such bearers, it is enough for us to take a “long, loving, look” at Mary. She gives us an example to follow, so that we may be like her and do as she. But such look will fall short of its goal if we do not let her show us her Son.
For there is none she likes better than that we gaze on God, on Jesus. We are not to give even the appearance that she matters to us more than God or Jesus. If we devotees of lose sight of the Lord, her true face will stay concealed more than revealed.
Her true face mirrors the Lord’s. She knows she is his servant. He fills her with grace and joy. The servant, in turn, has her eyes on the Lord (see Ps 123, 2); she seeks to know his will. That is why she says “yes” to his plan. And the Virgin lets the Spirit make her bear fruit and guide her.
The most outstanding of the bearers of joy and hope
Mary is full of grace and joy that overflow. So then, she sets out and travels in haste. And it was no easy travel; it brings her to a town in the hill country to get to where Elizabeth lives. But her mind is made up; she must share her joy with Elizabeth and share also in her joy.
The two, yes, are bearers of joy. Elizabeth is full of joy due to the pleasant surprise that Mary’s visit brings her. She proclaims her the Mother of the Lord. In turn, the one who makes the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leap for joy gives God the glory. So, she praises the great God who lifts up the lowly and is the source of all joy. She also sings of his power and mercy; he sends the wealthy away empty and fills the hungry with good things.
Mary, yes, is the first of those who take no credit for their success (see SV.EN VII:305). She stands out among the lowly to whom God gives many gifts (see SV.EN I:183). No doubt, she is the most blessed of bearers of Christ. She is so since she is his Mother. But most of all, she is blessed for her faith; she hears God’s word and does it (Lk 8, 21; 11, 27-28).
And Mary is true to the Word to the end. For she stands near the cross. She shares, yes, in the giving up of the body and the shedding of blood. That is why “assumed body and soul into heavenly glory,” she is the firstfruits of those whom Christ has raised up. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary gives us the hope that we will reach one day the glory of heaven.
Lord Jesus, make us proclaim the Father’s greatness. And grant that we, full of the Spirit of joy and hope, be bearers of your light and glory.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

- Portadoras y portadores de gozo y esperanza
De Jesús es la victoria que nos libra de la tristeza y la desesperanza de la muerte. Quiere él que seamos portadoras y portadores de gozo y esperanza como su Madre.
La Virgen María es la Madre de los que formamos la Iglesia y hemos de llevar a Cristo a los demás. Y él es la luz de las naciones y la gloria de Israel. Se nos llama, por lo tanto, a ser portadoras y portadores de esa luz y de esa gloria. Portadoras y portadores del gozo y la esperanza que brotan de la luz y la gloria.
Y para ser tales portadoras y portadores, nos basta con mirar con detenimiento y amor a María. Nos da ejemplo para que nos portemos como ella y hagamos lo que ella. Pero quedaremos cortos en tal mirar si no la dejamos mostrarnos a su Hijo.
Es que nada le gusta más que esto: que nos centremos en Dios, en Jesús. Así que no hemos de dar ni la impresión de que nos importa ella más que Dios o Jesús. Se nos velará más que revelará el verdadero rostro de María si los devotos le perdemos de vista al Señor.
El verdadero rostro de María refleja el del Señor. Ella se toma por su esclava. Él la llena de gracia y gozo. A su vez, la esclava se fija en su Señor (véase Sal 123, 2); busca hacer lo que quiere él. Es por eso que dice sí a su plan. Y se deja la Virgen fecundar y guiar por el Espíritu Santo.
La más eminente de los portadores y portadoras de gozo y esperanza
Desborda ella de gracia y gozo. Con prisa, pues, se pone en camino. Y el camino no es fácil; lleva a la montaña para que se llegue a la casa de Isabel. Pero está resuelta María a compartir el gozo con su prima y participar también de su gozo.
Las dos, sí, son portadoras de gozo. Se alegra Isabel por la sorpresa de una visita que le hace María; la proclama Madre del Señor. A su vez, la que hace saltar de gozo a la criatura de Isabel da a Dios la gloria. Alaba al Dios grande que ensalza a los pequeños y es la fuente de todo gozo. Reconoce su poder y su misericordia; él despide vacíos a los ricos y colma de bienes a los hambrientos.
María, sí, es la primera de las personas que no se atribuyen el éxito a sí mismas (véase SV.ES VII:250). Ella es la más eminente de los humildes a los cuales da Dios muchos dones (véase SV.ES I:235]). Y no hay duda de que es la más bendita de las portadoras y portadores de Cristo. Lo es, pues ella es la Madre de Jesús. Pero más que nada, es bendita por su fe y por oir la palabra de Dios y cumplirla (Lc 8, 21; 11, 27-28).
Y María es fiel a la Palabra hasta el fin. Pues junto a la cruz está. Participa, sí, de la entrega del cuerpo y del derramamiento de la sangre. Es por eso que, «asunta en cuerpo y alma a la gloria celeste», es la primicia de los ensalzados por Cristo. La Asunción de la Virgen María nos da la esperanza de llegar un día a la gloria del cielo.
Señor Jesús, haz que proclamemos siempre lo grande que es el Padre. Y concédenos ser portadoras y portadores de tu luz y gloria llenos del Espíritu de gozo y esperanza.
