MASS

Introductory rites Lk 4:18 The Spirit of God is upon me; he has anointed me. He sent me to bring good news to the poor, and to heal the broken-hearted.

Prayer

O God, who sanctified the priest, Blessed Mark Antony Durando, through the contemplation of the Lord's Passion and made him radiant with the gift of counsel and with love of the poor and the sick: grant that, by his intercession and example, we may be faithful to the teachings of the Gospel, so as to love you as your sons and daughters. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ...

Prayer over the Gifts

Lord, in your kindness hear our prayers and the prayers which Blessed Mark Antony Durando offers on our behalf. Watch over us that we may offer fitting service at your altar. Grant this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

Communion rite

Jn 14:4-5

Live in me and let me live in you, says the Lord; he who lives in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit.

Prayer After Communion

All powerful God, by our love and worship may we who share this holy meal always follow the example of Blessed Mark Antony Durando. Grant this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

Biblical readings

The following readings are used when the liturgy of Blessed Marcantonio Durando is celebrated with the rank of feast. For pastoral reasons, they can even be used in Masses of the memorial.

First reading

God has chosen those who are nothing at all.

A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians 1:26-31

Brothers, you are among those called. Consider your own situation. Not many of you are wise, as men account wisdom; not many are influential; and surely not many are well-born. God chose those whom the world considers absurd to shame the wise; he singled out the weak of this world to shame the strong. He chose the world's low-born and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who were something; so that mankind can do no boasting before God. God it is who has given you life in Christ Jesus. He has made him our wisdom and also our justice, our sanctification, and our redemption. This is just as you find it written, “Let him who would boast, boast in the Lord.” This is the Word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm

From Psalm 37

L Happy are they who hope in the Lord.

Trust in the Lord and do good, that you may dwell in the land and enjoy security. Take delight in the Lord, and he will grant you your heart's requests. L

Commit to the Lord your way; trust in him, and he will act. He will make justice dawn for you like the light; bright as the noonday shall be your vindication. L

Neither in my youth, nor now in old age have I ever seen the just abandoned or their children begging bread. The just always lend generously, and their children become a blessing. L

First reading

It was because God wanted to save those who have faith through the foolishness of the message that we preach.

A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians 1:18-25

The message of the cross is complete absurdity to those who are headed for ruin, but to us who are experiencing salvation it is the power of God. Scripture says: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and thwart the cleverness of the clever.” Where is the wise man to be found? Where the scribe? Where is the master of worldly argument? Has not God turned the wisdom of this world into folly? Since in God's wisdom the world did not come to know him through its wisdom, it pleased God to save those who believe through the absurdity of the preaching of the gospel. Yes, Jews demand “signs” and Greeks look for “wisdom,” but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and an absurdity to Gentiles, but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God's folly is wiser than men, and his weakness more powerful than men. This is the Word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm

From psalm 1

L The just one who serves the Lord is like a fruitful tree.

Happy the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked Nor walks in the way of sinners, nor sits in the company of the insolent, But delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on his law day and night. L

He is like a tree planted near running water, That yields its fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade. [Whatever he does, prospers.] L

Not so the wicked, not so; they are like chaff which the wind drives away. For the Lord watches over the way of the just, but the way of the wicked vanishes. L

Verse before the Gospel

Cf. Mt. 11:25

L Alleluia, alleluia.

Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.

L Alleluia.

Gospel You have hidden these things from the learned and the clever and revealed them to children.

A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew 11:25-30

On one occasion Jesus said: “Father, Lord of heaven and earth, to you I offer praise; for what you have hidden from the learned and the clever you have revealed to the merest children. Father, it is true. You have graciously willed it so. Everything has been given over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son — and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. Your souls will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light.” This is the gospel of the Lord.
