Give Witness to the Lamb of God

Jesus is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. We are to fix our gaze on him and give witness to him.

And we thank God for revealing this to John the Baptist and for sending him to give witness to it. May God give us now the grace to take a long and loving look at the Lamb of God. And to give witness to him, too.

Clearly, to give witness to Jesus means that we, in the first place, value highly that he comes to us. That we stand in awe and wonder that he willingly comes our way so we may get to meet him. Wouldn’t it be sad should we just acknowledge his presence in the same way we do, not rarely, in prayer? That is to say, in a routine and perfunctory way. To meet him so hardly helps us to know Jesus as God’s Servant, as the Anointed with the Holy Spirit. And as God’s Son.

But those who truly get to know Jesus as God’s Servant, Messiah and Son cannot but give witness to him. And they give witness “full of fervor, joy, generosity, courage, boundless love and attraction” (see EG 261). They rise to the challenge that is posed by the proclamation that Jesus is the Lamb of God. That he takes the sin of the world (Jn 19, 36; Acts 8, 32; Heb 9, 13-14; 1 Pt 1, 18-19).

Their very lives, in fact, give witness to the Lamb of God, who takes the sin of the world. That is to say, they are themselves the new way of life that they proclaim as witnesses of the Lamb. Hence, they do their part to take away the sin of the world, the insatiable greed for power and wealth. And they spread the grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus, grant that our lives give witness to you. You give us your body and blood so that we may live, so may we, too, feed others that they may live. And as we live, since you give us your body and blood, so may others live, too, as we give them of ourselves. Call us to you, hide us in you, and fill us to the brim, so much so that we live like you till we die like you (see SV.EN I:276).

Dar testimonio del Cordero de Dios

Jesús el el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo. Nos toca fijar los ojos en él y dar testimonio de él.

Y damos gracias a Dios por dar a conocer esto a Juan Bautista y por enviarle a dar testimonio de ello. Que Dios nos conceda la gracia de mirar de modo detenido y con amor a su Cordero. Y también de dar testimonio de él.

Claro, dar testimonio de Jesús quiere decir que hay que apreciar mucho, en primer lugar, que él se nos acerca. Que nos hemos de quedar atónitos y asombrados frente al que se quiere encontrar con nosotros. ¿No sería una lástima que reconociésemos su presencia del mismo modo que lo hacemos, no rara vez, en la oración? Es decir, por mera rutina y a la ligera. Encontrarnos con él de esa forma poco nos ayuda a conocerle a Jesús por el Siervo de Dios, por el Ungido con el Espíritu Santo. Y por el Hijo de Dios.

Pero los que logran conocerle a Jesús de verdad por el Siervo, el Mesías y el Hijo de Dios no pueden sino dar testimonio de él. Y no dejan de dar testimonio de él fervorosos, alegres, generosos, audaces, llenos de amor hasta el fin y de vida contagiosa (véase EG 261). Afrontan el reto que les plantea la proclamación de que Jesús es el Cordero de Dios. De que quita él el pecado del mundo (Jn 19, 36; Hch 8, 32; Heb 9, 13-14; 1 Pe 1, 18-19).

De hecho, por su modo de vivir, logran dar testimonio del Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo. Es decir, los que conocen a Jesús de verdad encarnan la nueva vida que proclaman como testigos de él. Por lo tanto, hacen su parte para quitar el pecado del mundo, la codicia de poder y de riqueza que no se puede saciar. Y contagian la gracia y la paz de Dios, nuestro Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo.

Señor Jesús, concédenos poder dar testimonio de ti con nuestra vida. Nos das de comer tu cuerpo y de beber tu sangre para que vivamos; haz que también demos de comer y de beber a los demás para que vivan. Y así como vivimos, pues nos nutres con tu cuerpo y tu sangre, que así también vivan los demás, pues nos entregamos por ellos. Déjanos acudir a ti, ocultarnos en ti y llenarnos de ti, de modo que vivamos al igual que tú y muramos al igual que tú (véase SV.ES I:320).
